Carl Lawson Lowther 1931-2002 Obituary

Carl Lawson Lowther, 71, of 3870 US Highway 33-west, Weston, passed away, Wednesday, June 12, 2002, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital at Weston.

He was born Feb. 22, 1931, in Doddridge County, a son of the late William and Catherine Simons Lowther.

He was twice married, first to Edith Mae Moran, who is deceased. Then he married Ruth Ann Myers on May 30, 1986, at Weston, who survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Carl L. “Butch” Lowther Jr. of Buckhannon, William Richard Lowther of Tampa, Fla., and Edward Nelson Lowther of Buckhannon; one daughter, Gwynn Denise Karabeika of New Port Ritchie, Fla.; one stepson, Richard Neal Bean, Jacksonville, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Jodi Jones of Davis; seven grandchildren, Jacob T. Lowther, J.T. Lowther, Laura Ashley Lowther, Brandi Shea Lowther, Shalayna Jade Lowther, Jessica Karabeika, Michael E. Karabeika; and nine stepgrandchildren, Carley Jo Bean, Matthew Allen Bean, MacKenzie Layne Jones, Amy Michelle Jones, Adrienne Franks, Catrina Franks, Rachel Franks, Tony Franks and Miranda Grace Bean.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Carlotta Lyn Lowther and Betty Jane Lowther; and one brother.

Mr. Lowther had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He had worked for 23 years for the Department of Mental Health and was a member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church at Weston.

Friends will be received at Morris Funeral Home, Jane Lew, Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Committal and burial services will be held Saturday at Mt. Zion Cemetery near Philippi at 10 a.m. followed by memorial services at St. Matthew United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Michael Linger officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are to be made to St. Matthew United Methodist Church at Weston or South Buckhannon Mission Church.
