Carolyn Jean Friel Swecker, 74, a resident of Valley Head passed from this life late Monday evening, October 20, 2014 at home surrounded by family. She was born Sunday, March 31, 1940 in Huttonsville, a daughter of the late Oscar and Pauline Friel. On June 29, 1957, in Valley Head, Carolyn married George Kyle Swecker who preceded her in death in 2011. Left to cherish Carolyn’s memory is one son, Charles “Chuck” Swecker of Valley Head, one daughter, Pam Kinder and husband, Mark of Martinsburg, four grandchildren, Fred and Fletcher Kinder, AJ Sharp and husband Nicholas Maitland and Blair Ede Campbell and husband, Charlan, a son-in-law, Eugene Clark, three great grandchildren, Penelope “Tinker Bell” Campbell, Oliver Campbell and Shelldon Maitland, two brothers, Eddie and Gary, two sisters, Phyllis and Kay and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Carolyn in death was one daughter, Penny Clark and two brothers, Bill and Darrell. Carolyn attended the schools of Randolph and Pocahontas counties. Before retiring in 1993, she had been employed as the Postmaster for the United States Postal Service in Valley Head for thirty years. Carolyn enjoyed flowers, yard work, reading, solving Sudoku puzzles, crocheting and sewing. She especially loved cooking for family, friend and all who stopped by the house. She was a Methodist by faith and a lifelong member of the Valley Head United Methodist Church. Carolyn’s request for cremation was honored. A graveside memorial service will be conducted in the Valley Head Cemetery Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 1:00P. Pastor Leon Brown will officiate and inurnment will follow.
