CARROLL J. HOWELL, age 71 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life early Monday morning, June 3, 2013 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, WV surrounded by his family and friends. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

He was born Friday, November 21, 1941 at Mabie, WV a son of the late John and Delia Shreve Howell. Surviving are one daughter, Tonya C. Swecker and husband Sean Beverly; one sister, Geneva “Peach” Underwood, OH; six grandchildren, Shai; Gracee; and Mason Swecker, all of Beverly; Paul Armentrout, Elkins; Jeremy; and Chenaya Armentrout, both of NC; and one great grandson, Ashton Armentrout, NC.

Preceding him in death are one daughter, Sonya Armentrout; two brothers, Elmer “Red”; and Bevelyn “Peck” Howell; and seven sisters, Genevieve “Toots” Zirkle; Thelma Gum; Emmagene “Dutch” Phillips; Juanita Dickens; Elizabeth; Maxine; and Evelyn Howell.

He attended the Coalton Twelve-Year School and was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served with the U. S. Army from 1966 to 1967 in the 11th Armored Cav. Regiment, receiving the Bronze Star for Combat Valor. He was a retired truck driver, having worked for various trucking companies, was a member of the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 PM, Thursday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home, Friday, June 7, 2013 at 1:00 PM. The Rev. Kevin Gainer will officiate and interment will follow at the American Legions Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale, WV where the H. W. Daniels Post # 29, American Legion, the Tygarts Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the W. V. Army National Guard Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
