Charles “Charlie” Skinner, Sr., age 82 years, a resident of Mabie, WV departed this life Saturday, February 27, 2021 at his home.

He was born May 15, 1938 in Orlando, WV a son of the late Sylvester Franklin and Nina Alta Shipman Skinner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Alice Ryan, Anna Louise Crutchfield and Edna Lorena Maxwell; daughter-in-law, Sherida Skinner; nephew, Mikie Ryan; grandson, Daniel Ray Arbogast and great grandson, Damien Ryan Carpenter. On April 12, 1959, Charles married Edna June Chewning who survives at Mabie, they were married for sixty one years.

Also surviving are six children, Charles Skinner, Jr. and wife Janice of Thomas, WV, Orville “Bubby” Skinner of Mabie, Carol “Sissy” Gooden and husband Tim of Buckhannon, WV, Delbert “Shotgun” Skinner and wife Kenya of San Antonio, TX, Jerry Skinner and wife Jody of Buckhannon, WV and Richard “Ricky“ Skinner and fiancée Michelle Clark of Washington, PA. Several grandchildren, CJ, Amanda, Cynthia, Jonathan, Samantha, Travis, Corri, Tony Ray, Kelly, Jimmie Lee, Jordan, Tyler, Eric, Alssia, Cheyanna, Britteny, Caleb, Cameron and Hannah. One sister, Virginia Dare Skinner Bennett of Mesa, AZ, several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. Charlie was a Baptist by faith.

He worked for the Western Union, he was a coal miner, and also worked for the B&O, C&O and retired from the CSX Railroad.

He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and working in his garden.

He also loved his family and visiting his friends. Charles never knew a stranger.

Friends may call from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm Thursday, March 4, 2021at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, March 5th from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Wease Day officiating.

Interment will follow in the Lower Rowan Cemetery at Mabie, WV.

Masks and social distancing will be required for anyone attending the services for Mr. Skinner.

Memorial contributions may be made to a Charity of Choice in memory of Charlie.
