Charles Elmer Hawk, 70, of Washington Grove, Md., died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, in the Manor Care Potomac Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Potomac, Md., following an extended illness.

He was born Aug., 16, 1933, in Harrisburg, Pa., the son of the late Elmer Ray and Pauline Shoff Hawk.

On Dec. 29, 1961, he married the former Barbara Smith, who survives at Washington Grove, Md.

Mr. Hawk grew up in Leechburg, Pa., and attended Davis & Elkins College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve from 1952 until 1960. He was a retired data processor for the Power Division of Bechtel Engineering.

He was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Gaithersburg, Md., a life member of American Legion Post 60 in Berkeley Springs and was a former member of American Legion Post 29 in Elkins.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Concord Cemetery. The Rev. Rose M. “Jo” McCartney will officiate and interment will follow with Barbour Post 44 American Legion conducting military rites. The Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
