Charles Roy Smith, 72, of Rt. #3, Philippi, died Thursday morning, January 17,2013, in the Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown. He was born November 2, 1940, in Barbour County, a son of the late Bradford Ray and Goldie Beulah (Glendenning) Smith. Surviving are one daughter, Carolyn Smith, Elkins; his companion, Vicki Connell, Philippi; three grandchildren, Michael Daugherty and wife, Cecelia, Lost Creek, Chelsey Smith and Christopher Smith, both of Middle River, MD; three great grandchildren, Cambria, Wyatt and Lilly Anna; three sisters, Josephine Collins, Romney, Juanita Moats, Philippi, Roselie Lawson, Baltimore; three brothers, Bradford W. Smith, Moatsville, Darl Smith and Luther June Smith, both of Wheeling. Mr. Smith formerly owned and operated C. & S. Gas near Philippi and managed a gas station – convenience store near Montrose. He had also operated the Teter Creek Bar. He enjoyed riding four-wheelers and working on cars. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, January 21, 2013, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 South Main Street, Philippi. The Rev. Shirley Webster will officiate and interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Sunday and from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., the funeral hour, on Monday. The Stemple & Forman Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
