Charlotte Kirby Adkins, 73, of Route 1, Keyser, died on Thursday, March 14, 2002, at Potomac Valley Hospital in Kerens.

She was born March 12, 1929, in Bluefield, a daughter of the late Claude and Josephine Crabtree Kirby.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Claude E. Kirby of Oak Hill.

Mrs. Adkins was a retired Mineral County High School teacher. She was a graduate of Beaver High School, West Virginia Wesleyan, West Virginia University with a masters degree in education, and graduate work from Marshall University. She taught at Poca High School, Harman High School, Petersburg High School, Piedmont High School and retired from the Frankfort High School.

She was a member of the Keyser Presbyterian Church, Walter Chapter 43 OES Davis at Thomas, a retired West Virginia Teachers Association, AD Pi Sorority and a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary at Harman.

Surviving are her husband, Golden B. Adkins; one daughter, Sylvia Joe Adkins of Keyser; two sons, G. Butler Adkins of Huntington, and E. Kirby Adkins and wife, Doriine A. of Keyser; and one sister, Carol E. Cameresi of Roanoke, Va.

Friends will be received at Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser today from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday at Keyser Presbyterian Church from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, with the Rev. Gary S. Eller and the Rev. Jack Sanders officiating. Graveside services will be at Woodmere Cemetery in Huntington Monday at 10 a.m. Alkire Chapter 10 OES will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel. Memorial donations may be made to Keyser Presbyterian Church, 300 S. Mineral St., Keyser, W.Va. 26726.
