Clarence E. Gochenour Sr., 77, a resident of the Tygart Hotel, Elkins, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 28, 1925, at New Market, Va., a son of the late John G. and Lelian Shirkey Gochenour.

He was married to Madalene Grace Rosier, who preceded him in death.

He is survived by two sons, Clarence E. Gochenour Jr. of Elkins, and Tommy Gochenour of New Market, Va.; one daughter, Betty Ann Lucas of Stanley, Va.; three brothers, Harold Benjamin Gochenour of Virginia, Charles David Gochenour of Criders, Va., and George Walter Gochenour of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Irene Alice Knupp of Broadway, Va., and Rosalee Gochenour of Buckhannon; one stepson, Harold Rosier of Baltimore, Md.; one stepdaughter, Joyce Fansler of Parsons; and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, John G. Gochenour Jr.; and one sister, Lois Virginia Zirk.

Mr. Gochenour was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of the H.W. Daniels Post No. 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Ellis E. Conley will officiate. Full military rites will be accorded at the gravesite by members of H.W. Daniels Post No. 29 American Legion and Tygart Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Clarence E. Gochenour Sr
