Coy L. “Mountain Man” Fitzpatrick, 93, of Valley Head, formerly of Nutter Fort, Stonewood, died at his home, Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at 11:25 p.m. following a brief illness.

He was born July 10, 1909, at Rosedale, the son of the late Scott and Flora Twyman Fitzpatrick.

He was married to Hester Davis Fitzpatrick, who preceded him in death in December 2000.

Surviving are one son, Marlin and wife, Charlotte Fitzpatrick, Broadway Avenue, Clarksburg; three sisters, Ida Pearl Sears, Massilon, Ohio, Lillian May McCarty, West Milford, and Mary Elizabeth Thompson of California; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, T.S. Jr. and Joe Fitzpatrick; one daughter, Myrna McIntyre; and one infant sister.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Navy. He was employed by PPG Industries Works 12 for more than 40 years as an electrician. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, VFW 573 of Clarksburg, a member of the West Virginia Muzzle Loaders Club and the Appalachian Ranger and the Ivory Mount muzzle loading clubs.

He was a person that loved the out-of-doors and probably understood the habits of wildlife to the point that he deservedly earned the nickname of “Mountain Man.”

His wishes were being carried out of being cremated, with memorial services scheduled at a later date. Greathouse Funeral Home in Salem is in charge of the arrangements
