Dana Robert Sutherland, 79, a resident of Coalton, passed away Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, in the Davis Medical Center.

He was born May 7, 1940, at Cassity, a son of the late Chad Sutherland and the late Gladys Williams Sutherland Zirkle and his beloved stepfather, the late Clates Zirkle, who raised him.

He was married to the former Carolyn Triplett, who survives at Coalton, and they had celebrated 57 years of marriage.

Also surviving are two daughters, Roxanne Knicely and husband Mike and Robin Miller and husband Steve; two sisters, Shirley Rhodes and husband Daniel and Marsha Lanham and husband Kelmer; two brothers, Kenny Sutherland and Bill Zirkle and Sandy. Ten grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, Nic, Dan, Derek, Leah, Haylee, Ethan, Emily and Tyler and seven great grandchildren, Anthony, Aida, Julie, Major, Riker, Roman and Avery and two sisters-in-law, Connie Sutherland and Linda Ryan also survive.

Also preceding him in death was his precious daughter, Ranae Chewning; two brothers, Arnold Sutherland and Jerry Sutherland.

Bob spent his entire working life in the coal mines, a job he enjoyed. He also loved farming and watching his animals. He loved his family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will be missed.

A private graveside service will be held at the Rowan Memorial Cemetery near Mabie. The Rev. Stella Faye Moyer will officiate and interment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rowan Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 184, Mabie, WV, 26278 in memory of Mr. Sutherland.
