DAVID LEE DAFT, age 69 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Thursday afternoon, August 22, 2013 at the Davis Memorial Hospital. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

He was born Monday, May 8, 1944 at Dailey, WW a son of the late Wilburn Newton and Anna Grace Tacy Daft. David was the youngest of thirteen Daft children. On March 28, 1961 at Oakland, MD he was married to the former Linda Sue Flanagan, who survives. They had celebrated fifty two years of marriage. Also surviving are two sons, David Shawn Daft and wife Regina, of Philippi; Patrick Todd Daft, of Clermont, FL; one daughter, Melinda Dawn “Missy” Poyner and husband Jimmy, of Elkins; eight grandchildren, Joseph Daft; Katherine Daft; Ashley Daft; Dallas Poyner; Austin Poyner; Samantha Daughtery; Mallory Daugherty; Hanna Daugherty; two great grandchildren; Ethan and Silas Raines; two brothers, Clair “Bud” Daft and wife Mary Ann, of Beverly; Bill Daft and wife Carol “Timmy”, of Dailey; and three sisters, Leola Willoughby, of Elkins; Lenora Loyd, of Baltimore, MD; and Anna Mae Weese, of Dailey.

Preceding him in death are siblings, Vonda Jean Biesen; Viola Miller; Lillian Phillips; Loretta Cowell; Marjorie Barrickman and two infants.

David attended Beverly High School before becoming employed by the Dutch Oven Bakery. He would later work for Wallace and Stork Bakeries before retiring as a salesman for Frito-lay in 1994. He had driven cars for various dealers and had been employed by Kroger’s in Elkins for the past seven years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. David will be remembered as being a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. Nothing brought David more joy than seeing his family and others around him happy.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 6 to 9 PM, Sunday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home Monday, August 26, 2013 at 11:30 AM. The Rev. Dallas Forren and the Rev. Terry Burgess will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman, WV.
