David Lewis Smith 1940-2020 Obituary

David Lewis Smith, age 80 years, a resident of Montrose, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2020 in the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center. He was born June 8, 1940 a son of the late William L. and Minnie Scheitlin Smith. On July 30, 1961 in Elkins, he was married to Juanita Mae Beam who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Mark Anthony Smith and Rocky Lynn Smith and wife Tonya, all of Elkins and one daughter, Brenda Dawn Wiseman and husband Danny of Elkins. Two brothers, Gary L. Smith of Elkins and Eugene Smith of Denver, CO and one sister, Wilma Smith Gimmell of Indian Head, MD. Three grandchildren, Denny Ray Wiseman, Serena Paige Wiseman and Brandon Michael Smith and four great grandchildren, Brayden A. Smith, Oakleigh E. Smith, Gauge “M. R.” Wiseman and Lydia J. Smith also survive. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Carlyle Ray Smith and Fredrick Allen “Buck” Smith and two sisters, Barbara Sue Smith and Marilyn Lord. David was a bricklayer for forty years, having started his career at Roth Construction and retired from Wyant Construction. He built many buildings in Randolph and surrounding counties and was most proud of helping to build the WV Children’s Home School. He also laid fireplaces for many people including the fireplace for his daughter’s first home. He loved hunting and fishing in his younger years and loved spending time with his family.

Friends may call from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm Friday, June 19, 2020 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm Friday from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Terry Cannon officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. Social distancing as well as masks will be required for those in attendance at the visitation or funeral. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for David Lewis Smith.
