Dean Orva “Pappy” Jack, 89, a resident of Dailey, passed from this life Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Hospice Care Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins. Dean was born Tuesday, April 28, 1925 in Buckhannon, a son of the late Herbert Jack and Eunice Dean Jack. He was married twice, first to Izetta Mae Jack, the mother of his six children, who preceded him in death in 1977 and then to Violet Elizabeth Jack who preceded him in death in 2012. Left to cherish Dean’s memory are five children, Charlotte Wendorf and husband Edwin of MI, Buzz Jack and wife Faye of Beverly, Windel Jack and wife Barbara of Huttonsville, Sherley Jack of VA and Doris Sharp and husband Claude Jr. of Marlinton, two stepchildren, Phillip Ware and wife Sandra and Rena Sanders, all of FL, one brother, Dwain Phillip Jack and wife Patricia of CO, three half siblings, Michael Jack and Dawn Marie of KY, David Jack and wife Mariann of Buckhannon and Carolyn Phillips and husband Steve of French Creek, stepmother, Betty Jack of Buckhannon, ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Preceding Dean in death besides his parents and wives was one son, Dennis Gregory Jack and two sons in law, Buck Irvine and James VanHorn. Dean attended the schools of Upshur County. He worked in logging camps and advanced to owning his own sawmills. Dean was a self-employed truck driver, owning and operating Dean Jack Trucking. After retiring and while he was in his 70’s, he drew up the blueprints and built his own home. He enjoyed woodworking and gardening; raising his own meat and vegetables. Another favorite pastime was stopping at yard sales and attending auctions with his wife Violet. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 6PM until 8PM. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at 11AM. Rev. William “Wink” Lanham will officiate. Interment will follow in Brick Church Cemetery in Huttonsville where members of the H.W. Daniels Post #29, American Legion, and the Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars will provide military honors. The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Dean’s memory to Hospice Care Corp. 169 Diamond St. Elkins WV 26241 or your charity of choice.
