DELBERT MIDDLETON POLING 1937-2010 Obituary

THE REV. DELBERT MIDDLETON POLING, age 72 years, a resident of the Pifer Mountain Community, St. George, WV, departed this life early Monday morning, April 5, 2010 at his home. He had been in declining health although death was unexpected.

He was born Saturday, May 15, 1937 at Pifer Mountain, St. George, WV, a son of the late Artie Brown Poling and Virgie Margaret Stalnaker Poling. On April 1, 1966 at Oakland, MD, he was married to the former Alice Faye Day, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Delbert Michael Poling and wife Michelle of Kerens; three daughters, Deanna Michelle Minear and husband Steve of Elkins, Darla Marie Gennantanio and husband Charles of Thomas and Laura Lea Elbon and husband Donnie of Elkins; one brother, Artie D. “Don” Poling and wife Joan of Parsons; nine grandchildren, Jason Allen Adkins, Dustin Wyatt Hissam, Jonathan Michael Gennantonio, Leland Markley Elbon, Samantha Brooke Adkins, Alexandrea Alana Elbon, Evan Don Elbon, Stephen Andrew Minear, and Sonya Danelle Poling; one great granddaughter, Anna Lee Elbon.

Preceding him in death are two brothers, William Gradon Poling and James Poling and one granddaughter, Holly Dawn Elbon.

He attended the Pifer Mountain School and was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1954. He was a Draftsman at Lab Craft for twenty nine years until its closing. He was a United Methodist Minister for ten years serving various churches in Tucker Co., Grant Co., Mineral Co., and Hampshire Co. He loved working on the farm and in the garden.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 1 PM. The Rev. John Morrison will officiate and interment will follow at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George, WV.
