Delphia Gladys Jones, 82, a lifelong resident of Pifer Mountain, near St. Geroge, died August 2, 2001 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Richard Turner, Belington. She had been in declining health for the past one and a half years, and her death was attributed to cancer.

She was born on Jan. 2, 1919, in Tucker County, a daughter of the late Campbell and Dona Harsh Shahan. On June 1, 1936, at Pifer Mountain, she ws married to Parker O. Jones who preceded her in death on March 17, 1994.

Surviving are one daughter, Louise Turner (and richard), Belington; one daughter in-law, Betty Jones, Philippi; two brothers, Doyle Shahan, Arcanum, OH, Dorsey (Jake) (and Opal) Shahan, St. George; four sisters, Mrs. Charles (Peg) Filler, Mrs. Paul (Velma) Roy, and Mrs. Floyd (Jean) Morrison, all of Parsons, and Mrs. Dick (Faye) Capper, Thonotosassa, FL; a grandson, ABH Roger M. (and Sheryl) Jones, Norfolk, VA; a granddaughter, Mrs. James (Karen) Boni, Philippi; six great-grand daughters, Megan Guire, of South Carolina, Mrs. Joe (Shandra) Trader, Bridgeport, Sheena and Sarah Bunner, Belington; Brittney and Whitney Jones, Newport News, VA; two great-grandsons, Jordan Robin-son, and Nicholas Fridley, Philippi.

She was preceded in death by a son, Morris (Sonny) Jones; a granddaughter, Crystal Crites; three brothers, Forrest (Buddy) Shahan, Ellis O. Shahan, and D. Ray Shahan, and a sister, Thelma Tenny.

She attended the one-room Murphy School at Texas Mountain, and was a hoomemaker. She was a member of the Clover Run CEOS Homemakers’ Club, and a member of the Pifer Mountain United Methodist Church at Pifer Mountain, where she taught Sunday school for many years.

Friends were received at the home Barb-Greenlief Funeral Home. Mrs. Jones was moved to the Pifer Mountain United Methodist Church for the funeral. The Reverends Bernard Marshall and Robert Leard officiated and interment followed at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery, near St. George.
