Denzil Keith Moore, 62, a resident of Gum Road, passed away 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, Dec., 31, 2003, at his residence. He had been in failing health for the past 14 months.

Born May 1, 1941, at Mill Creek, he was the son of the late Grover and Meady Collins Moore.

On June 18, 1960, at Valley Bend, he was united in marriage to the former Mary Arlene Herron, who survives at Gum Road. They were married by the late Rev. Harry Simmons.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by four daughters, Margaret Wolford and husband, Richard, of Elkins, Teresa Cave and husband, Tom, of Montrose, Tammy Hedrick and husband, Billy, of Montrose and Pam Hammond and husband, Jim, of Huttonsville; one son, Arnold Moore and wife, Sheria, of Montrose; three special grandchildren that Denzil and Mary raised, Matt, Micky and Kimberly Moore; and one special great-granddaughter, Mariah Taylor, who was born on his birthday on May 1, 2003.
Also surviving are three brothers, Albert Moore and wife, Marcell, of Harding, Roy Moore and wife, Ruth, of Mabie and Charlie Moore and wife, Idell, of Mill Creek; 13 grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter to be born soon. Several stepgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were five brothers, Ed, Petty, Russell, Lawrence and Francis Moore; four sisters, Ethel Brewer, Hazel Barb, Angel Moore and Becky Moore.
Denzil was employed as a coal miner at an early age and later became a logger for James Cook, Frank Petrice and Sammy Schoonover before becoming self-employed. He retired from Morris Logging in 1998 when he became disabled.

Denzil was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and especially loved camping with his children and grandchildren on the Fourth of July. He also loved riding four-wheelers.

Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel after 6 p.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner Chapel at 1 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Terry Cannon, pastor of Believers’ Fellowship and Shiloh Baptist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Gilman. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Denzil Keith Moore.
