Deward Rector Corley, 85, a resident of Valley Head, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 13, 1917, in Barbour County, the son of the late Russell Boyd Corley and Rachel Lena Wagner Corley Price.

On Dec. 15, 1940, at Greenup, Ky., he married the former Thelma Gay Lindsay, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Russell P. Corley of Deerfield, Ohio, and Lloyed N. Corley of Diamond, Ohio; and six daughters, Sharon J. Corley and Lynette G. Corley Branch, both of Valley Head, Barbara J. Corley Savey of Harrison, Mich., Helen E. Corley Campbell of Johnson City, Tenn., Susan R. Corley Sigley of Elkins, and Patrice A. Corley.

Also surviving are four brothers, William Corley of Elkins, Adrian Corley of Brooklyn, Ohio, Donald Corley and Homer Corley, both of Akron, Ohio; and two sisters, Phyllis Skidmore of Valley Bend and Shirley Baldwin of Akron, Ohio.

Fifteen grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive.

Preceding him in death are two brothers, Kenneth Corley and Gary Corley; an infant son; and one great-grandson.

Mr. Corley was a retired coal miner.

Friends may call from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Monday morning, Mr. Corley will be moved to the Valley Head United Methodist Church where friends may call from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Verl Simmons, the Rev. Bill Sullivan and the Rev. Robert Baer will officiate. Interment will follow in the Mingo Cemetery. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Deward Rector Corley.
