DON LEO MITCHELL Don Leo Mitchell, 85, of Rt. #3, Philippi, died Friday morning, October 5, 2012, in the Broaddus Hospital, following an extended illness. He was born March 15, 1927, at Philippi, a son of the late John Fielden and Rosa Victoria (Johnson) Mitchell. On October 6, 1945, he married the former Vonda Marie Weaver, who preceded him in death on April 5, 2012. Surviving are two daughters, Vera Mae Keene and husband, Ronald, Philippi, Linda Lou Frey and husband, Ralph M. Jr.; one son Don Keith Mitchell and wife, Sarah Suzanne, Philippi; six grandchildren, Ronald Keith (Belinda) Keene, Michael Scott (Sharon) Mitchell, Tonia Mae (Mark) Bolyard, Eric Brian (Melissa) Mitchell, Chad Douglas (Shana) Frey, Brad Matthew (Elizabeth) Frey; eleven great grandchildren, Michael Keith Mitchell, Ashley Ramsey, Brittany Keene, Matt Keene, Leah Mitchell, Skylar Mitchell, Jodi Keene, Emily Ann Frey, Aaron Bolyard, Clay Douglas Frey and Quade Frey; one great great grandson, Asher Mitchell. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Agnes Flo Mitchell and Pauline Spiker and by two brothers, Elmer Mitchell and Hugh Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U. S. Army. He retired from CSX transportation where he had been a track inspector and equipment operator. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Division of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He was a member of the Laurel Creek U.M. Church and attended the Souls Harbor Tabernacle. He particularly enjoyed family vacations and gatherings. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, October 8, 2012, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi. The Rev. Bill Lanham will officiate and interment will follow in the Cross Roads Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Sunday and from 9:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M., the funeral hour, on Monday. Stemple & Forman Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
