Donald “Don” Wayne Jacko, 69, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021, at Davis Medical Center in Elkins. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected.

Don was born Sunday, May 13, 1951, in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, a son of the late Julius Jacko and Emma Kinzer Jacko.

On Sept. 11, 1973, in Keene, Texas, he married the former Cheryl McCluskey, who survives at home.

Also left to cherish his memory are two sons, Jeremy Jacko and wife, Becca, of Elkins, and Aaron Jacko and wife, Lisa, of Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren, Ethan, Eliana, Sean, Emma and Emmett; one brother, Ray Jacko of Elkins; nieces and nephews, Kirk Jacko and wife, Heather, of North Carolina, Brenda Fornos and husband, Jamie, of Maryland, Eric Jacko and wife, Amy, of North Carolina, Jeff Jacko of South Carolina, and Michael Jacko of South Carolina; and sister-in-law, Virginia Mattson of South Carolina; father-in-law, Dr. Richard McCluskey of Keene, Texas; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Linda and Richard Lewis of San Diego, California, Brian McCluskey and Thia Kelleher of Loveland, Colorado.

Don was a graduate of Highland View Academy in Hagerstown, Maryland. He attended Columbia Union College in Tacoma Park, Maryland, and then obtained his bachelor’s degree from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California.

He had been employed as the chief physical therapist for Elkins Memorial General Hospital. For the last 20, until his retirement, he was a physical therapist with Davis Home Plus.

Don was a Pastor for 28 years for the Elkins, Buckhannon, and Parsons Seventh Day Adventist Churches. He taught classes at Highland Adventist School and was very involved in field trips and outdoor activities with the school children.

Don was an outdoor enthusiast. Every weekend, he enjoyed getting a group of people together to go biking, hiking, or camping. He had an amazing green thumb and spent lots of time growing a variety of vegetables, berry bushes and fruit trees.

Also, Don loved to build things. He designed and built the Buckhannon Seventh Day Adventist Church and Highland Adventist School, designed and built his own log home and helped build his son Jeremy’s home. Don loved the Lord and his family was the most important thing on earth to him.

The family’s request for cremation was honored. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan, 17, 2021, at 2 p.m. at the Buckhannon Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1122 Brushy Fork Rd Buckhannon, WV 26201. Visit www.elkinschurch.org for links to the live stream of the service.
