OBITUARY: DONALD E. HOTSINPILLER Donald Edwin Hotsinpiller, 86, of Philippi, died Tuesday, January 8, in the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center, following an extended illness.

He was born November 14, 1926, at Newburg, Preston County, the son of the late Virgil Clarence and Virginia (Chidester) Hotsinpiller.

On May 5, 1968, he married the former Hazel Beatrice (Skidmore) Sturm, who preceded him in death on September 30, 1994.

Survivors include one sister, Dora Jeanne Crouse and husband, Orlan Crouse Jr., Philippi; two step-daughters, Georgia Hatfield and husband, Carl, Clarksburg, Sharon Golden, Philippi; several step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Leona Costello and Mary Louise Smallridge and by two step-daughters, Avanell Yheaulon and Sandra Sue Sturm and by two step-sons, Jim Sturm and Leonard Sturm.

In 1944, at the age of 17, Mr. Hotsinpiller joined the U. S. Army and began a career which encompassed 22years and three wars; World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict.

He retired in 1967 from Company D 864th Engineering Battalion with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following retirement from the Army, Mr. Hotsinpiller embarked on a second career; as a coal miner, working for Consolidation Coal Corp. (now Consol Energy) in their Robinson Run Mine until his retirement.

He was a member of Barbour Post #44, American Legion, the Barbour County Senior Citizens Center and the United Mine Workers of America.

Mr. Hotsinpiller enjoyed hunting, fishing and gathering his friends in for a friendly card game. He was known as a very kind and generous person who enjoyed life.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 14, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 So. Main Street, Philippi.

The Rev. Tim Bleigh will officiate and interment will follow in the West Virginia National Cemetery where military rites will be conferred.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Sunday and from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M., the funeral hour, on Monday.
