Mr. Donald Ray “Stretch” Murphy, 64, a resident of Dartmoor and more recently a resident of the Barbour County Good Samaritan Society, departed this life Saturday afternoon at the care facility. Death was following a period of declining health and complications from COVID-19.

Donald was born Aug. 11, 1956, in Fairmont, a son of the late Clifford Bliss and Louise Virginia McElfresh Murphy.

He is survived by one sister, Shirley Yoke of St. Albans; one brother, David Murphy and wife, Millie, of Rockville, Maryland. Three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two nephews and two nieces also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Mary Murphy, two step-children, Melissa Jean Tenney and Melanie Lynn Gordon; and one brother, Lawrence Bliss “Larry” Murphy.

He was a retired master electrician and a Navy veteran. He always had an inquiring mind, taking things apart at an early age and then assembling again. He enjoyed learning new things and the History Channel was a favorite.

He enjoyed exploring the many caves (spelunking) throughout West Virginia. He had a humorous nature and enjoyed a good joke.

At this time there will be no services and a celebration of life will be arranged at a future date. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A private interment will be in the National Cemetery in Grafton on Wednesday.

The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Donald Ray Murphy
