Donald Roger Johnson Jr. 1949-2021 Obituary
Donald Roger “Don” Johnson Jr., 72, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. He had been battling a prolonged illness but death was unexpected.
Don was born Saturday, February 19, 1949, in Albert, a son of the late Donald Johnson and Milda Elizabeth “Betty” Flynn Johnson. On May 3, 1974, he married the former Mary Katherine Rohr who survives at home.
Also left to cherish his memory are six children, Donna Edmond and husband David of Norton, Tisha Gardner and husband Cory of Elkins, Katrina Thompson and husband James of Elkins, Stephanie “Tubby” Glasgow and husband Robbie of Elkins, Jimmy Bodkins of Beverly, Harold Bodkins of CA, twelve grandchildren, Tiffany Edmond, Olivia, Skyla, Greyson, Adaleigh, and Everly Gardner, Luke, Phoebe, and Arwan Thompson, , Jimmy, Lisa, and Eric Bodkins, two siblings, Charlotte Corley of Elkins, and Roxanna Watson and husband Ricky of Junior.
Preceding him in death besides his parents were his first wife, Dorothy Jean Phares Bodkins, four children, David, Neil, Dan, and Sharon Bodkins, and three siblings, Sharon Simmons, Patty Simmons, and Jeffrey Johnson.
Don had attended the schools of Tucker County and had been employed as an equipment operator for West Virginia Department of Transportation. He had served in the United States Merchant Marines during the Vietnam era as a Steward’s Department Seaman. He had a great sense of humor which went hand in hand with his love of the Three Stooges. He enjoyed collecting odds and ends. He loved people and enjoying their company. He never met a stranger and was known as The Candy Man. Don was an active member of the Elkins Church of the Nazarene and loved his church and church family.
Don would’ve wanted everyone to know, “Love Ya Later.”
Visitation will be held at the Nazarene Church Monday from 6 PM until 8 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at the church Tuesday, December 7, 2021, at 12:00 PM. Rev. Terry Burgess will officiate. Don’s request for cremation will then be honored.
