Personal Note: Don Shaw was my uncle, and he was a great guy, always nice to everyone – The Obituary misspelled his brother-in-law’s name, Carol Williams below should be Carroll Williams – Odd that in-laws Forest and Ernie are listed, They are the same person – Forest Earnest (Ernie), but didn’t list Arnold Ray and Dana Keith – all three of which died as toddlers

Mr. Donald Harold Shaw, age 84, a resident of Belington and formerly of Mill Creek, departed this life Monday evening May 9, 2022 in the Mountain Living Community Assisted Care at Belington. Death was following a period of declining health.

He was born May 18, 1937 at Mill Creek, WV, a son of the late Harold Walton and Viola Esther Shifflett Shaw McCauley. On February 28, 1959 he was united in marriage to the former Maryn Gay Williams, who survives at Belington.

He is survived by one son; Kem Douglas Shaw and wife Danita of Milton, WV, one daughter; Lisa Ann Hart and husband Phil of Belington, four grandchildren; Danielle Nicole Hart of Belington, Heather Dawn Johnson and husband Charlie of Jerusalem, Ohio, Benjamin Seth Hart of Morgantown, WV and Caleb David Shaw of Beavercreek, Ohio, four great-grandchildren; Griffin, Madison, Caroline and River. Additional survivors include twelve siblings; Iona Hammonds and husband Eugene of Mill Creek, WV, Kenny McCauley and wife Martha of Warren, Ohio, Joan Merilatt and husband Chris of Murrells Inlet, SC, Troy McCauley and wife Bobbie of Mill Creek, WV, Gary McCauley of Mill Creek, WV, Frances Flanagan of Richmond, VA, Bonita Miller of Blacksburg, VA, Lynn Lanham and husband John of Mill Creek, WV, Jerry McCauley and wife Diana of Valley Bend, WV, Larry McCauley and wife Shelia of Huttonsville, WV, Pam Barrickman and husband Chris of Mill Creek, WV, and Jeff McCauley and wife Terry of Valley Bend, WV. Surviving in-laws include; Marshall Williams of Mill Creek, WV, Foster Williams of Harding, WV, Johnny Williams of Belington, Rachel Lane of Ohio, and Jim Kelly of Alaska.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings; Kathryn Kelly, Connie Weaver, and Steven McCauley, step-father; James McCauley, in-laws; Thelma Beck, Ernie Williams, Forest Williams, Carol Williams, Betty Diddey, Norma Bohon and Carp Williams.

Donald attended the schools of Randolph County and was a member of the Memorial Mission Church in Mill Creek, WV. He was formerly employed at Lab Craft and lastly worked as a coal miner for Carter – Roag Mining. He was known as the handyman around town. He was a great man, father, grandfather, and great-father and loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg St. on Friday May 13, 2022 from 6 PM – 8 PM and again on Saturday May 14, 2022 from 8 AM – 12 PM the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Randy Long officiating. Interment will then follow in the Fraternal Cemetery near Belington. Condolences can be made to the family at www.talbottfuneralhome.com.
