Dorotha Ward Toadvine Polovina, 90, died Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002, at her home and resided at 13430 Coppermine Road, Herndon, Va.

She will be buried in Tyaskin, Md., next to her late husband Harry Leon Toadvine.

She was born June 1, 1912, a daughter of Ray and Hattie Ward of Crystal Springs.

She was a graduate of Elkins High School and Richmond Business College in Richmond, Va. Upon graduation she was employed by the U.S. government in Washington, D.C., where she met Harry Leon Toadvine.

On Nov. 25, 1936, they were married at the home of Dorotha Ward in Crystal Springs. Harry was the son of Minnie Alice Toadvine and Harry V. Toadvine of Whitehaven, Md., and preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1948, in Arlington, Va.

Upon retirement from the Navy Department at age 72, she enjoyed helping seniors in nursing homes, working at her church as a volunteer, making crafts, attending senior citizen activities, and attending the family reunions held every two years in Crystal Springs, at the home place where she grew up. She attended McLean Bible Church in McLean, Va., and her long life is attributed to regular walking, nutrition and vitamins, which benefited her with the rewards of good health.

She is survived by three daughters, Joe Eileen McDonald of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Darlene Toadvine Dolbey of Fairfax, Va., and Connie Polovina Garnet of Elkins; one granddaughter, Jennifer McDonald-wigfield of Littleton, Colo.; two brothers, Willard Clarence Ward of Chester, Va., and Lawrence Whitman Ward of Oak Grove, Ore.; and one sister, Mary Louise Enlow of Baltimore, Md.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lanier Ward, Austin Ward and Waldo Ward; and three sisters, Freda White, Ada Ward and Margaret Ann Ward.
