Dorothy “Carolyn” Day Carr, 63, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life early Sunday morning, July 29, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family. She had been in declining health. She was born Saturday, October 2, 1948 at the family home in Barbour County near Dartmoor, a daughter of the late Harry Edward Day, Sr. and Dorothy Virginia Hanifan Day. On July 14, 1967, she was married to Jerry Carr, who survives. Carolyn was also survived by one daughter, Cindy Lou Carr of Elkins, one grandson, Bryan Edward Wilson of Elkins, three sisters, Rosemary June Kelley of the Sugar Creek Community, Wanda Lucille Frock of Springfield, OH, and Ella Maureen “Rennie” Phillips of Belington, one brother, David Owen Day of Parkersburg, and several nieces and nephews. Carolyn was preceded in death by four siblings, Robert G. Day, Elsie Marie Holmes, Myrtle Jeanette Emigh, and Harry Edward Day, Jr. Carolyn attended the schools of Barbour County, was a Certified Home Health Aide having worked for Appalachian Community Center, and did a lot of babysitting both in home and for local daycares. She enjoyed babysitting and working with the disabled, collecting key chains and Barbie Dolls, restoring doll babies, making jewelry, and talking on the phone with family and friends. Carolyn’s request for cremation was honored. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements for Dorothy “Carolyn” Day Carr.
