Dorothy Mae Barb Phillips 1913-2002

Dorothy Mae Barb Phillips, 88, a former resident of Parsons, and more recently a resident of Glade Valley Nursing Home at Walkersville, Md., departed this life Saturday morning, April 6, 2002, at Frederick Memorial Hospital at Frederick, Md. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to heart failure.

She was born June 9, 1913, at Parsons, a daughter of the late Frank Barb and Bessie Gilmore Barb.

On June 12, 1937, she was married to Salathiel John “Lake” Phillips, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons, Roger Franklin Phillips and wife, Belinda, Silver Springs, Md., and Lawrence Stephen Phillips and wife, Linda, Frederick, Md.; three granddaughters, three great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Barb and Robert Barb.

She is a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1931. She worked for the Loft’s Candy Store and the Joseph E. Horne Department Store at Mt. Lebanon, Pa. She owned and operated the Penn Avenue Dairy at Parsons until 1985. She was a member of St. Johns United Methodist Church at Parsons.

Friends will be received at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor Wednesday at 11 a.m. The Rev. David Fuller will officiate and interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery in Parsons.
