Dortha Mae Hammonds, 69, a former resident of Adolph and more recently a resident of the Tygarts Valley Apartments in Elkins, went to be with the Lord at 11:25 a.m. Friday, May 27, 2003, in Davis Memorial Hospital. She passed away following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 9, 1934, at Adolph, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Mellie Mae Johnson Hammonds.

On Sept. 13, 1949, she was united in marriage to Coleman Fincham, who survives at Cassity.

Also surviving are two daughters, Mellie Currence and husband, Richard, of French Creek and Becky Currence and husband, Kevin, of Cassity; and one son, Tim Fincham of Mill Creek.

In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by eight grandchildren, Melissa Rehak and husband, Kurt, of Conawingo, Md., Michelle, Michael and Marsha Currence, all of Baltimore, Md., and Karah, Khristopher, Keith and Keian Currence, all of Cassity; one sister, Juanita “Bunt” Arbogast of Adolph; two sisters-in-law, Verna Hammonds of Shadyside, Ohio, and Ginny Hammonds of Baltimore, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death besides her parents were one daughter, Norma Jean Fincham; one grandson, Kevin Currence II; three brothers, Roy, Dale and Paul Hammonds; and one sister, Pauline Hammonds Taylor.

Dortha was a homemaker and an in-home care attendant for various families in the Randolph County area.

She was a member of the Ambassador Baptist Church, where she remained very active until her illness. She was a devout Christian and spread his Word with love. Dortha loved painting, drawing, traveling and cooking. She attended the Adolph schools and Tygarts Valley High School.

Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home Chapel today after 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted from the Runner Chapel on Tuesday at 1 p.m. Pastor Mike House of the Ambassador Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow in the Zirkle Cemetery at Cassity. The F.E. Runner Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Dortha Mae Hammonds
