Douglas Dale Tuning was a caring brother and uncle, and he was a dear friend to many people. He passed away on Feb. 19, 2022, at the age of 60 due to complications from COVID-19.

He was born on June 18, 1961, to his parents, Preston Tuning and Sally Lamb Tuning.

After graduating from Elkins High School in 1979, he went on to study business and history at Fairmont State University, where he graduated in the class of 1983. He went on to have a long career as a manager for companies including Applebee’s, C.J. Maggie’s, Kroger and Whataburger.

Doug is survived by his twin sister, Debbie Phares; his brother-in-law, Mark Phares; and his niece, Ashley Butler.

His loss is also grieved by his stepsister, Kim Jeffries; his stepmother, Gerry Tuning; and many others.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his paternal grandparents, Oley and Carrie Tuning; his maternal grandparents, Robert and Anna Lamb; his stepbrother, Jim Wray; and many aunts and uncles.

He was a loving and involved friend and family member and could always be found at the center of conversations at social gatherings. Some of his favorite times were spent traveling and trying new food with his sister, friends and other family members. He was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed watching and attending WVU football and basketball games with his many friends. Doug was full of life and lived to the fullest.

He will be sorely missed, and his memory will be cherished by all who had the good fortune to know him.

Doug’s request for cremation was honored.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, from 10 a.m. until noon.

The Randolph Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the arrangements for Douglas Dale Tuning.
