Douglas Roy Doug Cunningham 1963-2002 Obituary

Douglas Roy “Doug” Cunningham, 38, a former resident of Randolph County and a resident of 150 Trent Road, Statesville, N.C., passed away at 2:40 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2002, in the Northern Hospital, Surry County, Va., from injuries sustained in an accident.

Born June 12, 1963, in Elkins, he was the son of Delmas M. and Erma Smith Smarr who survive in Statesville.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Veronica Watson and husband, Richard, Dailey; his paternal grandmother, Pearl Smarr, North Carolina; and several aunts, uncles cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandparents, Woodrow and Mable Smith; his paternal grandfather, Lovell M. Smarr; two sisters, Teresa Mae and Anita Kay Cunningham; and two brothers, Vincent Joe and Edward Lee Cunningham Jr.

Doug attended the schools of Randolph County and the schools of Iredel County, N.C. He was a member of the Lakeview Bowhunters Club and in archery had won several awards. He had many hobbies including golfing, archery, bowling, horseshoes, fishing and gardening. He was a Baptist by faith.

Friends will be received at the F.E. Runner Funeral Home on Sunday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. On Monday, Doug will be moved to the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church for visitation from noon until 1 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Frank Long, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville.
