The Rev. Doyle Neil Rider, 75, of Weaver Community, widely known and respected pastor of the Weaver Church of the Nazarene, died Wednesday evening, June 2, in the Monongalia General Hospital, following an apparent heart attack. He had been in declining health but his death was unexpected. Rev. Rider was born January 20, 1935 at Junior, a son of the late Clarence Doyle and Rose Nell (Moore) Rider. On October 20, 1953, he married the former Loverine Hymes, who survives at their home in Weaver. Also surviving are one daughter, Cheryl Myers and husband, John, Weston; three sons, Alan Rider and wife, Kristin, Groton, Mass., Jeff Rider and wife, Cindy, Norton and Roger Rider, Weaver; two sisters, Patty Nutter, Jane Lew and Martha Lou Anderson, Junior; one brother, Philip Rider, Weaver; eleven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, John Lucas Myers and Zachary Thomas Rider; by two sisters, Juanita McCauley and Donna Rider and by four brothers, Clyde Edward Rider, Rodney Glenn Rider, Keith Ervin Rider and Duane Rider. Rev. Rider was a graduate of Belington High School and had attended the Mt. Vernon Nazarene College. He had served 33 years as pastor of the Weaver Church of the Nazarene and had, over the course of his ministry, been asked to speak in revivals at Nazarene and various other churches. He was affiliated with World Servants and World Vision and loved helping people. He was also a retired coal miner having last worked at the Badger Mine near Philippi and was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Rev. Rider was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying camping, hunting, especially turkey hunting and fishing, particularly trout fishing. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, June 6, from the Weaver Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Tim Britton and the Rev. Richard Settles will officiate and interment will follow in the Hillyard Cemetery. Friends will be received at the Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Avenue, Belington, from 4:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Saturday and from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. on Sunday, when the remains will be moved to the Weaver Church of the Nazarene where friends may call from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. , the funeral hour. The Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
