Earl Dallas Haller, age 93, departed this life on November 6, 2021, at his home in Parsons, WV surrounded by his family. Earl was born on Friday, August 24, 1928, to the late Summa Bennett Haller and Howard Bradford Haller. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence Haller, Dempsey Haller and Leonard Haller, and his sisters Margaret Haller Hargrove and Betty Lee Haller, and great grandsons Caleb Morgan and Gideon Linck.
He is survived by his wife, Emma Jean Bonner Haller; children and spouses Kathy Morgan and Bruce, Greg Haller and Joan, and Jane Roby and John; his sister Rita Roberts, ten grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren.
Earl’s ninety-plus-year life had many chapters from finishing high school in Eastman, Georgia to joining the Navy to raising a family outside of Baltimore, MD and an early retirement in his beloved Parsons, WV.
A legendary storyteller, Earl knew no strangers and was always eager to share a story with friends old and new. A homage to his ancestry and fascination with Native
American history, Parsons residents will know Earl by the handmade totem pole and gigantic stone eagle on the front of his property.
Those who loved him most will miss the way his eyes lit up as he shared in his grandchildren’s joy when they had success hunting or fishing or when he was teaching his great grandchildren a poem from his schoolyard days. Earl will be remembered for kissing his wife of sixty-eight years every morning even as their eyes faded and their hair turned gray, for doing a backflip into the pool at the age of 73, for his penchant for taking up wild birds as pets and naming them Jake, but most of all, he’ll be remembered for his deep love of his faith, family, friends, and the West Virginia mountains he called home.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday from 4 PM to 6 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 12 Noon. The Reverend James Snyder will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV., where the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors, the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley post #3647, Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military honors. The Pythagoras Masonic Lodge # 128 A.F. & A.M. will also conduct ritualistic rites.
