Mr. Eddie Samuel Canterbury Jr., 84, a resident of Belington, West Virginia, departed this life Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, at his home.

He was born Oct. 3, 1937, in Burgoo, West Virginia, to the late Eddie S. Canterbury Sr. and Dora (Hamrick) Canterbury.

He is survived by wife, Jeanie Canterbury (McDonald), whom he married Oct. 11, 1958.

Also surviving are daughter, Tammy Payne (Harry) of Belington; son, Timothy Canterbury (Laura) of Belington; grandchildren, Christopher Payne (Kylie), Benjamin Payne (Betty), Nick Payne (Mandy), Traci Gallagher (Tom) and Aaron Harris (Lana); great-grandchildren, Zoe Payne, Phaedra Payne, Arden Payne, Annalyn Payne, Gideon Payne and Kiara Vanscoy; sisters, Carolyn Canterbury, Dorothy Ware (Skip), Doris McWhorter (John) and Vickie Clutter (Bob); and brothers, Kenneth Canterbury and Victor Canterbury (Linda).

Preceding him in death was one sister, Ruth Coontz; brother-in-law, Billy Coontz; and sister-in-law, Marlean Canterbury.

Eddie was retired from the U.S. Forest Service as a Budget Analyst. He was a past President of the Belington Kiwanis Club.

He was also a past member of the Barbour County Board of Education in the early 1980s, when seven new schools were built in the county.

He was a former member of the Barbour County Commission. Eddie was well known throughout the county, as he was always active in many events.

He and Jeanie loved taking spur of the moment trips and outings.

He loved spending time with family and helping organize family get-togethers. He will be sadly missed by family and friends.

Per Eddie’s request cremation will be honored. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.

The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Eddie Samuel Canterbury Jr.
