Edith Marie Lambert Ray, 81, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life, Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Hospice Regional Inpatient Center in Elkins following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Edith was born Wednesday, February 8, 1933 at Middle Mountain, a daughter of the late Orville White and Katie Loreen White. She had been married twice, first to Dempsey Lambert and then to Virgil Ray. Both preceded her in death. Left to cherish Edith’s memory are four children, Charlotte Lambert and fiancé Sam Elza, Susie Phillips and husband Gary, James Lambert, all of Elkins and Esther Fortney and husband Billy of Beverly, four grandchildren, Loyd Lambert Jr, John Lambert, Billy Fortney Jr and Angie Thompson, seven great grandchildren, John Jr, Melissa, Ashley and Jaden Lambert and Emma, Dylan and Macie Fortney, two brothers, Orville Keith White and Arthur White, three sisters, Mary Evans, Ruby Phillips and Sarah Woods, one special little girl Nia, that she cared for as a granddaughter as well as Nia’s siblings, Shane, Shania, Hunter, Mya and Tiffany and special friend Tia. Preceding Edith in death besides her parents and both husbands was one son, Dempsey Lambert Jr and two brothers, Floyd and Richard White. Edith was a Mennonite by faith and a member of the Lambert Mennonite Church. She loved to cook and thoroughly enjoyed camping, fishing and tending to her flowers. Edith’s request for cremation was honored. A graveside service with inurnment will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 1:00P in the Lambert Cemetery on Middle Mountain in Wymer. Pastor Boyd Wyatt and Rev. Dr. Marvin L. Parli will officiate.
