Edna Doreen Bennett 1935-2002 Obituary

Edna Doreen Bennett, 67, of Route 1, Moatsville, died Thursday morning, July 25, 2002, at the home of a son, at Brooks Lane, Lumberport, following an extended illness.

She was born April 19, 1935, at Union community, Barbour County, a daughter of the late Corbett Vain Daugherty and the late Mildred Eva Foster Daugherty Thompson.

Her husband, William Lee Bennett, preceded her in death on April 12, 1973.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Kay Bennett, Clarksburg, Neva Lee Kerns and husband, Norman Christopher Kerns, Lumberport, and Angel Lynn Bennett and friend, Franklin Brown, Moatsville; two sons, Roland Charles “Ron” Bennett and wife, Michelle Lynn (Moscar), Lumberport, and Danny Paul Bennett and Margie Ann (Poling), Belington; five brothers, Hugh (Dorothy) Daugherty, Arley “Butch” (Patricia) Daugherty, all of Philippi, Ivan Eugene (Beverly) Daugherty, Portland, Ore., Randall (Deonna Rose) Daugherty, Glen Burnie, Md., and Danny (Angie) Daugherty, Buckhannon; two sisters, Louise (Gail) Moore, Philippi, Orella Honeycutt and friend, Eddie Rose, Staunton, Va.; one stepbrother, James A. (Barbara) Thompson, Junior; grandchildren, Brandy DeAnn Bennett and fiance, Fred Bell, Fairmont, Kara Nichole Bennett, Morgantown, and Joshua Christopher Kerns, Lumberport; several foster children and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Finley; two brothers, Olen Daugherty and Ogle Paul Thompson Jr.; and her stepfather, Ogle Paul Thompson Sr.

Mrs. Bennett provided residential care for the elderly and the terminally ill. She was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and was a member of Philip Barbour Post 3560, VFW. She was a Christian.

The family will receive friends at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. today, noon until 9 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, Sunday, when services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Robert “Buck” True officiating. Interment will follow in Marsh Section of the Cross Roads Cemetery. Barbour County Post 44, American Legion will provide military rites at the graveside.
