Edna Jean Ferrell Stalnaker, 83, of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Methodist Hospital in Germantown. She was born on February 25, 1928 in Clintonville, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Charles Leslie Ferrell and Violet Hawkins Ferrell. She is survived by her loving husband, Edgar Bert Stalnaker; her sister Elouise Ferrell Tacy (Keith) of Overton, Nevada; her son Kenneth Allen Stalnaker (Beth) of Columbus, Ohio; daughter Karen Stalnaker Haynes (Rick) of Memphis, Tennessee, daughter Nancy Norwood (Peter Bundy) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughter Jody Stalnaker Williams (Paul) of Denver, Colorado and eight grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Edna Jean was preceded in death by her half-brother Charles Franklin Ferrell.

Edna Jean graduated from Tygart Valley High School in Mill Creek West Virginia in 1945 and Potomac State College in Keyser, West Virginia in 1947 where she was a member of Sigma Phi Omega Honorary Society. She married Edgar Bert Stalnaker on December 20, 1947 in Clifton Forge, Virginia and worked as Financial Secretary at the Women’s State Prison in Pence Springs, West Virginia and for an attorney in Morgantown while Edgar finished his degree at West Virginia University. Her husband’s job moved the family averaging every 3 ½ years around the country but after retirement their love of the mountains and family brought them back to West Virginia where they lived in Edna Jean’s home town Lewisburg for over 16 years and Mill Creek for over 12 years.

She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend. She was an active member of the Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg, loved music, reading, golf, square dancing and traveling with Edgar.

Friends will be received on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins from 12:00 noon until 2:00 P.M., the funeral hour. Rev. Dexter Taylor will officiate and interment will follow at the Elkins Memorial Gardens. Donations in Edna Jean’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1111 Lee Street, East, Charleston, WV 25301.
