Edward “Ed” Lee Phillips, 62, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life on Feb. 12, 2022, at Davis Medical Center. Ed had been in declining health for the past several months, but his death was sudden and unexpected.

Ed was born on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 1959, in Baltimore, Maryland, a son of the late Fred and Betty Lou Phillips.

His family moved to West Virginia in 1970. He attended the schools of Randolph County and graduated from Elkins High School in 1977.

Ed enjoyed old country music working crossword puzzles, playing cards, and watching sport. He was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dale Earnhardt and “Snoopy.”

Ed was never married nor had children of his own, but he was very close to his nieces and nephews, and all of their children.

Ed worked in the Elkins area at several factories. Coastal Lumber was his last place of employment several years ago.

Ed loved life and being with his family. He had a great sense of humor and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Left to cherish Ed’s memory are two sisters, Deborah Helmick and Karen Koch and husband, Steve; three nieces, Stephanie Koch, Stacie Koch and fiance, Jordan Aldridge, and Robin Newlon; three nephews, Kenny Helmick and girlfriend, Sammie Wetzel, Kevin Helmick and wife, Tiffany, and Bobby Koch, and girlfriend, Danielle Hite; and several great- nieces and great-nephews, Dylan, Levi, Jaelynn, Summer, Alex, Brycen, Bailey, Kailyn, Layla and Avery, and Sammie’s children, Aleeah and Levi.

Ed was preceded in death by one sister, Sherry Newlon; one brother, Johnny Phillips; and one brother-in-law, Lester Helmick.

Ed’s request for cremation was honored.

The family will have a “Celebration of his Life” at a later date. T

he Randolph Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Edward “Ed” Lee Phillips.
