Eleanor “Ellie” Jane (Marstiller) Tacy, a resident of East Dailey, passed away on June 24, 2020 at her home with family by her side at the age of 79 years under the care of WV Caring of Elkins.

Nicknamed “Ellie” at an early age, she grew up and continued to reside in the same community where her parents started a household back in the early 1930’s, when Glenn Stewart Marstiller, her father worked for the Works Project Administration under the Roosevelt administration and actually helped build the project house they later purchased from the federal government.

Her Father and Mother Caroline White (Hamrick) Marstiller resided on that property for some 53 years, raising eleven children, Virginia, Donald, Glenn, Jr., Francis, Robert, Dorothy, James, Wilburn, Phyllis, Franklin, and Eleanor, the youngest. Eleanor was the last surviving sibling.

All of the sons except for young Donald were military veterans, in fact, Francis was killed in a Korean War air incident.

Eleanor’s mother passed in 1965, her father in 1991. Eleanor graduated from Tygarts Valley High School in 1960 and later worked at Conrad’s Restaurant in Dailey after high school, the Bata Shoe factory until closure, the Village Square Restaurant, and finally for 19 years, Davis Medical Center, retiring in 2007.

Eleanor was married to Virgil G. Tacy, Jr., who survives. They had been married for 57 years. Ellie is survived, besides her husband, by three daughters, Deirdre “Dee-dee’ (Tom) Crosston of Elkins, Carole (Ed) Daniels of Mill Creek, and Meredith (Richard) Pritchett of Odessa, FL. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Kristin (Brian) Dawson of Elkins, Christopher and companion (Cassie White) and her son Kalaeb of Elkins, Clay Crosston and companion Alexis Noel of Elkins, Kaitlyn Daniels and companion Michael Landis of Horner, WV, Ethan Pritchett and Isabel Pritchett of Odessa, FL; three great-grandchildren, Briar Daniels of Horner, WV, Griffin Dawson of Elkins and Landyn Crosston of Elkins, several nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, Vonda Marstiller and Louise Marstiller of OH, a special friend, Irene Lothes of NC. Preceding her in death besides her parents and siblings are one infant son, Ronald Dean, her father and mother-in-law Virgil Tacy, Sr. and Pauline Tacy and step mother-in-law Mary Lou Tacy.

Eleanor remembered always the good times growing up in East Dailey when her neighbor friends would gather, often walk to Dailey and return, distance of about 5 miles, but so many activities in winter fun and summer leisure hours with a bunch of neighborhood girl friends.

She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, gardening, canning, working her flower gardens which she normally did from spring to fall, playing solitaire and search word on her tablet and chatting with her special friends on the telephone.

Her final thoughts and desires were to return to tending to her flowers and gardening, the outdoors that she loved so much as well as another trip to Nashville. Family members and friends can rest assured that she will be with you always.

Pastor Ann Fretwell will officiate the graveside memorial at 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 30, 2020 and interment will follow at the family burial plots in the Brick Church Cemetery south of Huttonsville.

Social distancing as well as masks will be required for those in attendance at the graveside services.
