Elizabeth Anne Bland, 79, a resident of 20 Circle Drive, Buckhannon, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital in Weston.

She was born Feb. 11, 1924, in Buckhannon, the daughter of the late Matthew Edmiston and Nellie McWhorter Edmiston.

On Nov. 25, 1957, she was married to Joseph H. Bland, who preceded her in death on March 21, 1989.

Surviving are one stepdaughter, Martha Jo Keller, Middlebourne; one brother, Dr. John M. Edmiston, Plant City, Fla.; seven nephews, Dr. John E. Edmiston, Plant City, Fla., Dr. Mark Edmiston, Colorado, Andrew Edmiston, Florida, George M. Edmiston, Ohio, David B. Edmiston, New Jersey, James T. Edmiston, Pennsylvania, and Matthew J. Edmiston, Pennsylvania; and seven nieces, Pamela Allman, Buckhannon, Linda Tenney, Virginia, Sandra McSeveney, London, Ohio, Cynthia Lane, South Carolina, Beth Mansfield, New Jersey, Carol Ann Edmiston, Ohio and Jane Lea Pfautch, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by one stepson, William “Doug” Bland; three brothers, George Edmiston, Matthew Edmiston Jr. and Dr. Andrew Edmiston; one stepgrandson, Bradley Bland; and one stepgranddaughter, Michelle Lynn Keller.

Mrs. Bland graduated from West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1945. After graduation she went to Pearl River, N.Y., to work as a research assistant for American Cyamide.

She was a member of the Buckhannon Woman’s Club and the Upshur County Historical Society.

She was a volunteer in the recovery room at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Parkersburg from 1980 to 1997, accumulating more than 7,980 hours. She returned to Buckhannon in 1997.

Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the West Virginia Wesleyan College Library or the American Cancer Society. The Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
