Ellen C. Currence 1908-2003 Obituary
Ellen Clara Currence, 94, a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home Inc. at Crystal Springs since 1982, passed away Saturday evening, Feb. 15, 2003, at the nursing home.
She was born Dec. 10, 1908, at Elm Grove, a daughter of the late Walter A. and Margaret Swartz Senkbeil.
On June 18, 1930, at Elm Grove, she was married to Ford Gene Currence, who preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1981.
She is survived by four sons, Robert Walter Currence, Pipestem, Luther Ford Currence, Elkins, Charles Lee Currence, Winchester, Va., and William August Currence of Alexandria, Va.; six daughters, Clara Louise Robinson, Belpre, Ohio, Jean Thompson, Hanover, Pa., Angelia Elaine Phillips, Elkins, Lilly Marie Hill, Veto, Ohio, Virginia Ruth Corder, Washington, Va., and Shery Lynn Downs of Front Royal, Va.; one sister, Margaret Dierkes, Elm Grove; 26 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were one son, Roger Allen Currence; one sister, Edna Sekoral; and three brothers, Walter “Boots” Senkbeil, Victor and Herbert Senkbeil.
Mrs. Currence was a homemaker and a Lutheran by faith.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Walter H. Blough officiating.
Interment will follow in Mt. State Memorial Gardens near Gilman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Nella’s Nursing Home Activity Program, PO Box 1399, Elkins, W.Va. 26241 in memory of Mrs. Currence.
