Elma Kathleen Harman Varacalli, 85, a resident of Belington, passed from this life early Tuesday morning, June 11, 2013, at Valentine Assisted Living Facility in Beverly. Kathleen was born Tuesday, April 24, 1928 in Harman, a daughter of the late Asa Blake Harman and Zetta Smith Harman. On October 24, 1992, in Harman, she was married to Anthony “Tony” Varacalli who preceded her in death on June 6, 2001. Left to cherish Kathleen’s memory is her brother-in-law, Robert Thompson of Surfside, SC, two nephews, Stephen Thompson of Surfside, SC and Jeff Thompson of North Carolina, two nieces, Janet Leishman and husband, Scott of Morgantown and Renee Garber and husband, David of Martinsburg, five great nieces and nephews, Noah Thompson, Shelby Thompson, Andrew Leishman, Shannon Warman, and Erica Caldwell, and one great nephew, Aubr’ee Burrell. Kathleen was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by her two sisters, Bernice Gay Thompson and Dr. Janet Strader. Kathleen was a graduate of Harman High School, had worked as a store clerk at her father’s store, Blake Harman Store, and had worked as a receptionist for both Dr. Janet Harman Strader and for CVB of Randolph County. She enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. She was a member of the Walter Chapter #43, Order of the Eastern Star having received her 50+ year membership. She was a member of the Harman Church of the Brethren. Visitation will be held at the Smith Family Cemetery near Harman on Saturday, June 15, 2013 from 12 noon until 1PM, the funeral hour. The Rev. Eli D. Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow.
