Emmett David Hesse, 88, of Maysville, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2003, at Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg.

He was born on Oct. 10, 1914, at Hopsville, the son of the late William Harry and Susan Amy Turner Hesse.

He was twice married; first to the former Edna Mae Berg, who died on April 18, 1954, and then to the former Effie Keplinger, who survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Artie Mae Cunningham, Lena Amy Wilkins and Darlene Virginia Turner, all of Petersburg, and Bonnie Marie Kisamore of Maysville; two sons, Richard W. Hesse of Fisher and Lee Allen T. Hesse of Manassas, Va.; two sisters, Grace Kuykendall of Petersburg and Virginia Crum of Summersville, Ohio; one brother, Clarence Hesse of Maysville; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death besides his parents and first wife were one grandson, John Bertin Cunningham Jr.; one granddaughter, Teresa Cunningham; one son-in-law, Allen Wilkins; one brother, Thomas; and one sister, Dora Turner.

Mr. Hesse was a farmer and carpenter and a member of Jordan Run Union Church.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Basagic Funeral Home in Petersburg. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Jordan Run Union Church with the Rev. Paul Donaldson officiating. Interment will follow at Barger Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Jordan Run Union Church.
