Emmett Virgil Swick 1911-2002

Emmett Virgil Swick, 91, of Petersburg, died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at the Hampshire Health Care Center in Romney, where he had resided the past month.

He was born Jan. 19, 1911, in Petersburg. He was the son of the late Asa Washington Swick and Roxie Susie Boor Swick.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret T. Swick Swick on Oct. 17, 1999. He was also preceded in death by one son, Curtis E. Swick; one grandson, Mark E. Whetzel; and four brothers, infant Preston Swick, Eldridge Swick, Evers Swick and Alvie Swick. He was the last member of his immediate family.

Emmett worked for Ebert’s 5 & 10 Store in Petersburg for 36 years and Monarch Mills Discount for several years.

Surviving are one son, Thomas V. Swick of Arthur; two daughters, Arlena “Winkie” Sites and husband, Donald, of Maysville, and Wanda L. Whetzel and husband, Toby, of Arthur; seven grandchildren, Steven M. Sites of Harrisonburg, Va., Beth Hall of Petersburg, Debbie Waide of Johnson, Kan., Sandy Brown of Amarillo, Texas, Linda Leek of Ulysses, Kan., Billy Swick of Las Vegas, N.M., and Richard Swick of Garden City, Kan.; 13 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
