Emogene Merle Gear Chandler, 81, a resident of Beverly, passed from this life late Wednesday night November 6, 2013 at the Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Elkins. Emogene was born Friday, June 3, 1932 in Mill Creek. A daughter of the late Albert Gear and Ruth Poling Gear. On August 18, 1950, in Beverly, she married William “Bill” Chandler who survives in East Dailey. They had celebrated sixty-three years of marriage. Also left to cherish Emogene’s memory are three children, Debra Knighten and husband Carl of Chicago, IL, Alan Chandler and wife Patricia of East Dailey and Kevin “Mike” Chandler and wife Pamela of East Dailey, one sister, Colleen “Toni” Hamrick and husband Leonard and one brother, Don Gear and wife Wanda, all of Valparaiso, IN, one uncle, Newton Poling of Reevesville, one aunt, Eva Evans and husband, Bob of South Carolina, fifteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Preceding Emogene in death besides her parents was one sister, Eloise Gear, seven uncles and three aunts. Emogene attended the schools of Randolph County and was a homemaker. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping with family and friends. She loved playing cards with friends on “card night”, she loved bowling, having attended many various bowling tournaments throughout the United States, and she loved to travel. Her travels allowed her to live in areas such as Libya, Alaska, and Germany. She was a Presbyterian by faith and a member of the Valley Bend Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2013 from 11AM until 1PM, the funeral hour. Rev. Jack Howell will officiate and interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in East Dailey. The family has requested that contributions be made to the Hospice Care Corporation, 169 Diamond Street, Elkins, WV 26241.
