Ernest Franklin Bonner Jr. 1925-2002 Obituary

Ernest Franklin Bonner Jr., 76, of Dry Fork, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 20, 2002, in Veterans Medical Center in Martinsburg. He had been in declining health and death was attributed to a heart attack.

Mr. Bonner was born March 29, 1925, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Ernest Franklin Bonner and Grace Carr Bonner.

On June 18, 1947, in Oakland, Md., he married the former Edith Lucille Bright, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Gary Ernest Bonner and Susan, Martinsburg; a daughter, Jean Ann Hedrick and husband, Jack, Dry Fork; three brothers, Eston Bonner, Baltimore, Md., Jim Bonner, Virginia, and William Carr, Dry Fork; two sisters, Louise Poling, Pennsylvania, and Wilda Cross and husband, Edward, Kerens; three grandsons, Scott Hedrick, Dry Fork, Justin Bonner and Joshua Bonner, both of Martinsburg; and two granddaughters, Amy Hedrick, Dry Fork, and Brittany Bonner, Martinsburg.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Nada Riley and Evelyn Barnas.

Mr. Bonner attended the one- room school at Mill Run and Parsons High School. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for West Virginia Division of Highways as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1986. He was also a heavy equipment operator developing area golf courses and was a farmer. He attended Bright’s Chapel Church in Dry Fork. He was a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29, American Legion and the Tygarts Valley Post 3647 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Funeral Arrangements: Friends will be received at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home Saturday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home parlor Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Scott Tichnell officiating. Interment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery in Parsons.
