Ernest Okie Tenney, 69, of French Creek, died Monday, Aug.31, 2009, at his home.

He was born Feb. 17, 1940, at Alton, a son of the late Clarence and Lessie Westfall Tenney.

On Nov. 21, 1972, he married Myrtle Tenney, who preceded him in death.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Herbert “Butch” Tenney; and one sister, Vonnie “Bib” Burr.

He is survived by one son, Hank Tenney and wife, Melissa Smith Tenney, of French Creek; three grandsons, Hakan Tenney and John Corley II and Tristan Corley, all of French Creek; four granddaughters, Hannah Tenney of Buckhannon, Cher Corley of Moorefield and Leslee Corley and Mikki Merriman and husband, Mark, all of Buckhannon; one great-grandson, Hunter Merriman of Buckhannon; four brothers, Garnett “Buck” Tenney of Sago, Roger “Peanut” Tenney and wife, Kay, of Selbyville, Delbert Tenney and wife, Mary, of Union and Vacel Tenney of Warren, Ohio; three sisters, Diane McCartney and husband, Richard, of Big Bend, Stella Virginia “Cubie” Black and husband, Lawrence, of Mt. Carmel and Lora Hamner of Tallmansville; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Tenney worked for the street department in Buckhannon.

Friends will be received Friday, Sept. 4, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Big Bend Church Cemetery in Sago.
