Ethel Virginia “Peanut” Carr, 83, a resident of the Porterwood community, near Parsons, departed this life early Sunday morning, Jan. 18, 2003, in her sleep. Death was attributed to cardiac arrest.

She was born July 7, 1919, at Davis, a daughter of the late John E. Waybright and Sophia Clayton Waybright.

On Oct. 5, 1940, at Oakland, Md., she was married to Vincent A. Carr, who preceded her in death on July 26, 2001.

Surviving are two sons, Keith W. Carr and wife, Janet, Elkins, and Jerry Kent Carr and wife, Marilyn, Lebanon, Tenn.; one daughter, Carol L. Sherman and husband, the Rev. Carl Sherman, Pineville, N.C.; two brothers, Virgil L. “Pete” Waybright, Elkins, and Edgar R. “Bud” Waybright and wife, Wanda, Buckhannon; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are four brothers, Burl, Guy, Clifton and James Waybright; and three sisters, Jesse Sue Hottle, Martha Hedrick and Edna Bodkin.

She attended the one-room school at Riverview. She was head cook and custodian at the Porterwood School.

She was a cook for the former Tucker County Hospital. She was an employee of the former Dorman Mills and Parsons Shoe Plant.

She was a member of the Parsons Church of the Nazarene.

The family will receive friends at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home Tuesday from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Pastor James Ellis will officiate and interment will follow at Mountain State Memorial Gardens in Gilman.

The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Ethel Virginia “Peanut” Carr.
