Eugene Briscoe “Shotgun” Kelley, 84, of Midway Rd., Belington, died Tuesday evening, April 5, at the home of his granddaughter, Stacy, in Belington.

His death followed an extended illness. He was born August 14, 1926, at Belington, a son of the late Briscoe C. and Naoma (Roberts) Kelley.

On November 11, 1951, he married the former Elma Marie Thompson, who preceded him in death on February 8, 1990.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Trader and husband, Jerry and Aretha White and husband, Mickey, all of Belinton; two sons, Alfred Kelley and Carl Kelley, both of Philippi; a sister, Hazel Pauline Lenney in Michigan; a half-brother, Philmore Kelley, Elkins; nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and eight step-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by an infant son and infant daughter; by one sister, Gladys Kelley and by four brothers, Earl Lee Kelley, Edgar Dale Kelley, Sherwood Ray Kelley and Durwood Kelley.

Mr. Kelley was a veteran of the U. S. Navy.

He was a retired mechanic in auto and truck repair.

He was best known for his association with the Clarence Murphy Auto Repair and Towing Service in Philippi, but was also a former employee of Stu Hillyard’s Auto Sales in Belington, Bob Gordon’s Auto Sales in Elkins and Larew’s Salvage and Used Cars and Trucks.

He was an avid fisherman and outdoor enthusiast. He enjoyed watching auto racing and demolition derbies.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 9, from the Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Avenue, Belington.

Pastor Bryan Headley will officiate and interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Barbour County Post #44, American Legion and personnel from the W.Va. ARNG Military Honor Guard will provide grave side military rites.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Thursday, from 9:00 A.M. until 9:00 P.M. on Friday and from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., the funeral hour, on Saturday.

The Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
