Evelyn Marie Cross Taylor, age 74, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life late Monday evening, December 1, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. Evelyn was born Sunday, September 1, 1940 at Parsons, a daughter of the late Luke Lorenzo Cross and Liza Catherine Wilfong Cross. On September 3, 1960, in Glen Burnie, MD, she was married to Leroy Taylor III, who preceded her in death on April 3, 2003. Left to cherish Evelyn’s memory are two sons, Leroy Taylor IV and wife, Mindy, of Elkins and Donald Taylor and wife, Jessica, of Belington, two daughters, Hilda Marie Borror and companion, Mika, and Virginia “Genny“ Hawkins and husband, Michael, of Elkins, three brothers, Ronald Cross of Elkins, Delmer Cross and wife, Elenor, of Ohio, and Kenny Cross and wife, Sue, of North Carolina, six granddaughters, Crystal Perdue and husband, Jeff, of Beckley, Kayla Taylor and husband, Steven, Elizabeth “Liz” Hawkins and fiance, David, Stephanie “Tubby” Rohr and fiance, Robbie, Michelle Hawkins, and Alex Taylor, all of Elkins, five grandsons, Jonathan Taylor and wife, Paula, of Elkins, George “Wade” Wills and wife, Mandy, of Virginia, Shane Rhor and wife, Heather, of Dailey, Michael S. Hawkins, and Austin Hawkins, all of Elkins, twenty-one great grandchildren, twenty great nieces and nephews, fourteen great great nieces and nephews, and five special friends, Mary Jane Henthorne and husband, Bud, Keri Lewis, and Liz Collins, Lyz Cross, and Becca Schuler. Preceding her in death were two brothers, James Cross and Bernard Cross, one sister, Twila Carr, one nephew, one niece, and two great nephews, and one son-in-law. Evelyn was a graduate of Harman High School. She was an employee of Manville Service Corporation, Strasburg Automotive, the Beta Shoe Company, Reidbord Brothers, Peter Pan Cleaners, Valentine’s Personal Care Home, Colonial Place, and had retired from In Home Care. “Granny Grunt” or “Granny T”, as she was known to her grandchildren, was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid bowler, having competed in the Senior Nationals in Nevada in 2011. Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Thursday, December 4, 2014 from 5PM until 6:30PM, the funeral hour. Pastor Curlie Ray Jr. will officiate. Evelyn’s request for cremation will then be honored.
