Return to Crystal Radio Projects

I originally envisioned my Crystal Radio experiments would progress from simple radios to more advance radios, but my experiments with the Fox Hole Radios were actually a step toward absolute simplicity.

These radios were designed to be constructed of commonly available items and be used as a kind of receiver of last resort, these radios looked like real challenge

So why did I decide to experiment with these simple radios? When I saw this article, I wanted to understand how the radio worked, and what kind of reception you could get with these simple radios, I wanted to understand how men in fox holes used these radio

When was the Fox Hole Radio Concept developed? The earliest reference I could find was from Modern Electics Magazine January 1909

Simple Detector
Modern Electrics, January 1909

The Concept of the Novel Detector came up again during WWII with Fox Hole Radios, Radio-craft September 1944 Published an article referencing submissions by 2 GIs that utilized the Novel Detector in 2 Fox Hole Radios

2 Fox Hole Radios

Now to build a Fox Hole Radio……….
