FOREST BENJAMIN HERRON Forest Benjamin Herron, known to many as “Sparky” or “Tudie,” 86, of Rt. #2, Belington, died Friday morning, January 4, 2013 in the Talbott Personal Care Home, Belington following an extended illness. He was born April 11, 1926, at Belington, a son of the late Charles B. and Rosetta (Yeager) Herron. On April 24, 1946, he married the former Gatha Madeline Coontz, who preceded him in death on January 22, 2003. Surviving are three daughters, Faye Miller and husband, Gary, Sterling, VA, Judy Lynn Freeman and husband, Wayne, Dianne Shahan and husband, Alfred, all of Belington; twin brothers, Bruce (Mary Ann) Herron, Canton, OH, Bernie (Betty) Herron, Akron; one sister, Ruth Ann (Dick) Blosser, Fairmont; six grandchildren, Jeff Miller, Charleston, SC, Kelli Lowery, Chesapeake, VA, Scott Freeman, Ft. Wayne, IN, Nykeea Himes, Elkins, Emily Shahan and Summer Knight, both of Philippi; great grandchildren, Gunnar and Colt Miller, Hannah, Hayden, Heidi and Harmon Lowery, Zachary, Mackenzie and Abigail Freeman, Madison and Noah Benjamin Shears, Ethan and Darcy Knight, Sophia and Sullivan Knight. He was also preceded in death by two granddaughters, Monica Faye Freeman and Elizabeth Dianne Freeman; by three brothers, Delbert, Sherwood “Dick,” and Elwood Herron and by five sisters, Dorothy Davis, Mardine McCready, Rosalee Griffith, Pauline Riccotilli and Maryetta Row. Mr. Herron was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U. S. Navy. He retired as a track supervisor for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad (Chessie System Transportation). He was a member of the Calvary Mission Church where he had served for many years as Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of Belington Post #96, American Legion and a Life Member of Laurel Mountain Post #410, V.F.W. He enjoyed playing guitar and piano and singing. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Calvary Mission Church. The Rev. Larry Poling will officiate and interment will follow in the Belington Fraternal Cemetery, where Belington Post #96, American Legion will confer military rites. Friends may call at the Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Avenue, Belington, from 3:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Monday and on Tuesday from 9:00 until 10:00 A.M. , when Mr. Herron will be moved to the Calvary Mission Church where friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M., the funeral hour. The Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel was entrusted with arrangements.
